Hi all, am using the new 64bit Vista Beta 2 trial system and am currently unable to play any avi files. When using Windows Media Player I only get the sound with no video displayed.
I have tried installing the K-Lite Codec pack which didn't help and also tried installing the Divx package with codecs and player. Once again Media player only gives audio with no video, and when using the Divx player the same only audio no video.
I was hoping someone had worked out how to view and run these files successfully, any help or references to other web locations greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Playing avi files in Vista 64
I also have a problem with Vista 64 in playing XVID avi files. I have tried the ffdShow and the Koepi Xvid 1.1 (one at at time by uninstalling one before installing the other) and WMP 11 says that it cannot find the codec. I downloaded GSpot to check if it could process the file, but Gspot crashes while loading the codec library saying that it could not process because of "Unknown video codec #7". I downloaded the VLC player, and I am able to play the files just fine so I think there is something wrong in Vista. I tried turning off UAC, but this did change the outcome. Tony

You would need to install a 64bit version of the codec you want. I believe there is a 64bit version of Koepi Xvid - have you tried that?

Yes, it took me a while, but after reading some other forums I saw that doing that worked for some people. However, it did not work on my machine. I verified multiple files, but they all had the same result.

What codec do the files in question use... ? I'm assuming XVID below, but without a pointer to afflicted content, I'm just assuming. Which precise decoder are you using? What build of Vista? Do they work in wmplayer.exe*32?
